Counseling for Anxiety

Is anxiety taking over your life? Does it feel like you can’t control it no matter how hard you try? Have you already tried therapy but found it ineffective? If this sounds like you, I’m confident I can help. My practice offers the most effective forms of treatment, to get the relief from anxiety that you deserve. When it comes to treating anxiety disorders, research shows that therapy is usually the most effective option. That’s because anxiety therapy – as opposed to anxiety medication – treats more than just symptoms to the problem.

Counseling for Trauma

Most people will experience trauma in their lifetime whether it’s a car accident, abuse or neglect, the sudden death of a loved one, a violent criminal act, exposure to the violence of war, or a natural disaster. While many people can recover from trauma over time with the love and support of family and friends and bounce back with resiliency, others may discover effects of lasting trauma, which can cause a person to live with deep emotional pain, fear, confusion, or posttraumatic stress far after the event has passed. In these circumstances, the support, guidance, and assistance of a therapist is fundamental to healing from trauma.

Couples Counseling

All relationships go through their ups and downs.  I am here to provide you with a safe space for you and your partner to work through your current relationship challenges.  In couples therapy, we focus on improving communication, processing losses or betrayals, identifying unhealthy ways of coping, facilitating the couple in identifying their wants and needs and overall working together to create a more positive and healthy way of interacting with one another.  I also provide EMDR couples therapy to help you and your partner overcome your past traumas that are currently affecting how you relate and communicate with your partner. 

EMDR

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. This is a scientific/evidence-based approach to therapy that uses bilateral stimulation of the brain to reduce emotional reactivity to a specific trigger.  It is a trauma focused therapy that helps a person reprocess and resolve past traumas.  Trauma gets stuck in the short term memory part of the brain.  Moving ones eyes back and fourth while processing a traumatic memory helps move the memory from short term to long term memory.  This results in past traumas no longer impacting ones current perception of themselves or the world around them.  A person is able to live more for the present moment rather than being stuck in the past.

Individual Therapy

Need a space to talk and have someone actually listen and care? Individual therapy is all about getting that one on one attention to focus on you and what you are currently going through. I provide individual therapy for adults, teens, and adolescents. I help my clients process their emotions, identify triggers, and learn healthier ways of coping with daily life stressors.
